St. Louis, Missouri is famous for the big arch right near the downtown area but has a great history and many great things to see in addition to Gateway Arch says St. Louis painting contractors. In the early 1900′s it was the 4th most populated city in the United States and hosted the big events of the 1904 World’s Fair and the 1094 Olympic games which was the first time they were ever held anywhere in the Western hemisphere. The city itself has reduced greatly being only the 52nd most populated city now. Due to the big boom and those big crowd pleasing events, there are several wonderful attractions to see and do in this city for people visiting. A few of the things recommended by St. Louis house painters that live there are the Gateway Arch, the St. Louis Art Museum, Forest Park, The Hill and the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame museum to name a few.

The most popular tourist destination is the Gateway Arch which can be seen from miles away and is part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and was designed in 1947 but completed in 1965. It stands 630 feet tall and is 630 wide at the bottom making it the largest memorial in the United States. Many people who do not have a fear of heights; can take a trip up to the top inside the arch for overall views of the city. Below the arch is a museum following the great migration of people that settled west of the Mississippi River. That is why this memorial is also called the Gateway to the West.

Another wonderful place to visit in this city is the St. Louis Art museum which was built in 1904 for the World’s Fair event. This museum is in a magnificent building and holds a wide variety of art from modern art to antique relics. A lot of world renowned artists are also featured in this grand museum such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Picasso. It is located in Forest Park which is also a great place to spend some time in. Forest Park is bigger than New York City’s Central Park and it has the St. Louis Zoo and the Muny which is the largest and oldest outdoor musical theatre in the nation.

If you want to see a wonderful part of the city that is kind of a Little Italy of sorts; visit an area which is known as “The Hill”. Famous baseball players Yogi Berra and Joe Garagiola both grew up on the Hill where you can find the city’s best Italian restaurants. Plaques are on the homes of these baseball legends in addition to other famous residents of this little slice of St. Louis.

Speaking of baseball, a great place to visit is the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum. It is located near Busch Stadium in downtown. This place will be going in 2010 to a new spot in Ballpark Village which will be better for larger amounts of visitors.
